Culture is one of the things that make us human. Culture shifts history: changing cultures can topple governments, alters global perceptions, creates or extinguishes conflicts. Culture feeds off itself and is today a primary driver of human behaviour and society. At STGGSU we recognise the huge need for human expression. This is a need that should be harnessed to enable an appropriate and full evolution of the individual. The time period spent by a student at school comprises a narrow window of opportunity. However, it is perhaps the most crucial developmental stage of their life. To cater for this need we offer a wide range of cultural activities that encourage self-expression, enhance self-confidence, facilitate the exploration of creativity and develop talents.
Once a week, our specialist music teacher encourages a love of music through interactive sessions with the girls. These unique lessons allow the girls to actively participate in a range of musical experiences exploring to an array of musical concepts and elements as they develop a variety of different musical skills.
Quizzing holds a special attraction for people of all ages and from all walks of life. The quest for knowledge is an ongoing process of searching and learning. This quest is exactly what the Quiz Society in STGGSU endeavours to inculcate and promote among its members. At present quiz has a membership of approximately 20 students. We meet occasionally to practise and we have great fun playing various trivia games to improve our general knowledge.
A debate is, basically, an argument. That is not to say that it is an undisciplined shouting match between parties that passionately believe in a particular point of view. In fact the opposite is true. Debating has strict rules of conduct and quite sophisticated arguing techniques and you will often be in a position where you will have to argue the opposite of what you believe in. The debating society at STGGSU consists of a number of dedicated and passionate girls.
The STGGSU Art department aims to offer an art education for all students. This includes students who have a particular gift and interest in this subject and also those who do not intend to take Art education further. The aim of our programme is to contribute to all girls' general enrichment.
